  • Deck Officer Cadetship - Personal Statement Help?

Hi, i'm new here, but i'm currently applying for carnival/cunard/p&o. They are all one company it seems.
I'm stuck and have no idea what to put in the box when they ask "Please explain why you have applied for a cadetship and offer evidence of your suitability (eg. skills, strengths or experience etc)."
I was thinking putting my RYA qualifications/certificates, my superyacht experience, my love for yachting, my love for travelling etc.
Seeing as this is the key information which is going to get me an interview I was wondering if anyone has any tips on what to put or what have you put or how i should write it.
My age is 16 if that helps.
    Thanks.

It's your personal statement , you really should be writing it yourself. All the things you listed about sailing etc is obviously great to add.

I'm just stuck on what to put, seeing as it will decide whether I get an interview or not..

Tell them why you have applied for a cadetship. Then tell them about what relevant skills, strengths and experience you have.

all the stuff about sailing is great. Make it so you mention all the key skills and buzzwords that they'll be wanting to hear etc. Also mention why you want to go to sea. If you just say travel then they might think you don't know about the job

Edd, a good start point would be to look at what you have already written on this thread, "I was thinking putting my RYA qualifications/certificates, my superyacht experience, my love for yachting, my love for travelling etc."

Take one of those points and just expand it. For example, "my love for yachting has meant that over the past XYZ years I've spent a lot of time at sea and realised that a career in the maritime industry is something I would to enjoy....blahblahblah"

Soon enough you'll find yourself with several sentances which you can string together. Good luck!

              1. Make a list of all the challenges and difficulties you think you will face at sea
              2. Create list of all your strengths and reasons that you could overcome those challenges and difficulties.
              3. Then create a list of all the reasons you think that you would be a good candidate for a cadetship, why you think you will be a good person to be at sea.
              4. Throw away list number 1.
              5. Take lists 2 and 3 and try and re-write them into a personal statement.
