Doing my orals in a few weeks and thought it might be a good idea for people to share ways they have of remembering certain things.

So the main ones I have heard are:

For compass conversion:

Cadburys (Compass)
Dairy (Deviation)
Milk (Magnetic
Very (Variation)
Tasty (True)

True (True)
Virgins (Variation)
Make (Magnetic)
Dull (Deviation)
Company (Compass)

For rule 6:

V (Visibility)
D (Density of traffic)
Makes (Manouverability of Vessel)
Little (Light backscatter)
Willies (Wind, sea and current)
Drip (Draught)

If you get fishing and Trawling mixed up think of a trawler getting a bit of green seaweed in his nets off the sea bottom

To act as caution says is proper,
Ease Her, Turn Her, Back Her, Stop Her.

And if upon my Port is seen
A Steamer’s Starboard light of Green,
I hold my course and watch to see,
That Green to Port stays clear of me.

Both in safety and in doubt
Always keep a good look out.
In danger, with no room to turn,
Ease her, Stop her, Go Astern.

Another one for turning into an article?

For turning short round.
If you have a right hand propeller the turn has to be to the right
If you have a left hand propeller the turn has to be to the left

For manoevring up to a wharf - only go as fast as you want to crash.

(in all seriousness you cant go wrong approaching anchorages and wharves using the following - 9 cables to run - 9 knots, 8 Cables to run - 8 knots etc....)
