  • Method for learning COLREGS?

Anybody got an effective method for learning and memorising COLREGS?

Been reading through them and they're starting to stick in a bit, but finding it takes quite a while to get my head around learning one rule word for word. Any methods would be handy! Or even recommend a computer program with them on?

    Cheers

No need to memorise them. Understand them first. Start with Part B, steering and sailing rules
What college are you at? When are you orals?

I'm reading them through, understanding them and talking them through with the officers on-board, then working on memorizing them. Seems a lengthy process, was just wondering if there was a more effective way of doing it.

I learned it just by repetition honestly. Closer to my orals I got a copy of an audio recording of them. One of my friends at college had it.

Listened to that at night, in the car, when doing work. Whenever lol

Orals aren't for a while yet, only on my first sea phase but need to start and get them signed off in my TRB. Thought it would be better to start with a good method and carry it through.

This book is seriously good for learning them. its a brick but it doesn't take that long to work through, it got me through my orals, very logical and methodical.

Personally I thought that book was terrible.

This one is much better: http://www.nauticalbooks.co.uk/site/...s.asp?id=31989
