  • MGN's

Just one last question on here before I head off for my orals soon.

I'm a little bit concerned when it comes to MGNs. Is the examiner likely to ask me directly what certain MGN's contain or does he want me to reference them when I am answering questions. For example if he asks how I would maintain a safe navigational watch, I would mention that I would follow the guidelines in MGN 315.

    Thanks

Knowing MGN numbers isn't ncceassary, but it does show a good candidate that's well read when you know them. You're unlikely to be asked about a specific MGN but a common question is "What MGNs have you read recently?"

Knowing a few numbers can help, but no need to learn the contents off by heart. MGN 445 is a good one for brownie points (FPDs), 315 is good (Safe Nav), 40 (ISM code), 365 (Human Element of Risk).
