  • Orals in Belfast

Was just wondering if anyone could tell me about any past experiences or if they know of anyone that has done their orals in Belfast?

    Thanks

I know of a young chap who sat his EOOW (then class IV) orals in Belfast, when the office was still in Belfast (I believe they have moved to Bangor now) and got so blind drunk in Laverey's afterwards that he almost lost his discharge book and the wee bit of paper to tell him that he had passed.

Orals themselves were fairly tame, spent more time talking about the social life on one of the ship's that I had sailed on than anything technical, although I believe the MCA have got on the corporate bandwagon a bit now and have all kinds of set standards for examiners.

I know me father done his Class 2 (Fishing) orals somewhere in Ireland, which isn't a big ticket by merchant standards but still think he enjoys telling me what he got up to during his training. Still think he's holding some things back though... some dark and unsspeakable things him and his mates got up to. hahahah!
