  • Questions for cadets currently at Warsash

    Hello,

Just a couple of questions which have popped into my head, any answers would be much appreciated :-)

I notice on the Warsash website that they offer two accommodation packages, one being 7 days accommodation + 5 days food, they other being 7 days accommodation and 7 days food. Which is the most cost effective and most popular?

Also, are there printing facilities in the library for example, just to save me either buying a printer or carrying my own down from Glasgow!

    Thanks in advance :-)

Meal card is up to you - obviously if you have the 7 day food package then you don't need to worry about having enough cash left over to buy dinner on a weekend

As for printing, yes there are printers in the library - you get credit included with your course (or used too), if not you can top it up, its normal uni prices to print.

When I was there they switched to a credit system. People on the 5 day meal deal would be allocated a certain amount those on 7 day would have more. I'm sorry, I can't remember what the amount was. I do remember that those on the 7 day deal would usually have money left over. I thought maybe opting for the 5 day was better value.

Assuming they're still running the same system, may have changed since I left.

Printing, as alistair says, is freely available and you have allocated credit to an account

Thank you very much for replies. I had a look at the meal packages, I can't really justify paying an extra ?40 a week for two days food!! Good to know about the printing too.

        Cheers again!

This may sound obvious but it all depends how much you eat. I certainly don't over eat (never eat breakfast nor buy Costa coffee anymore) and I run out every Thursday without fail on the 5 day plan.

If you aren't going to be going home every weekend (which being from Glasgow I assume you are not) I would recommend the 7 day meal plan.
You are given around ?45 a week (I think, I can't remember the exact amount) for the 5 day plan which spread over 7 days, is just above ?6 a day. Considering meals are ?3.50-ish you might be stretching it.

One last point, I'm 99% sure you can switch meal plans whilst here so if the 5 day proved insufficient you can swap to the 7 day (or vice versa). Give accommodation a ring and check this.

Everyone I know on the cheaper meal option manage just fine. Those on the more expensive option normally have money left over which doesn't get spent.
