  • Two quick questions

    Q.1
I am on the september intake on the PD. Could someone tell me, roughly, when my sea phases will be like when the alloted time starts and ends roughly over the 3 years, if possible?

    Q.2
How do people manage their hair at sea?

  • #2
Q2. One of the crew will normally cut it - or if your on a cruise ship you can get the girls in the Salon to do it. If you're a girl and you're going on a cargo ship you may want to get it "styled" in a manageable way before you go away :-)
?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

best place to find out sea time is the college website as their course description will usually say

believe it or not, but i've been so focused on counting down the days till i start in september and getting organised, that i never even thought about what i'll be doing with my hair when im at sea. Uhohhh!- i dye my hair blonde now, and its pretty long, halfway down my back. i'll definitely be taking my straighteners then! haha

I would take lots of bobbles and hair nets as well, because there is no way you will be allowed to walk around the engine room with hair half way down your back!

Aye, last thing you'll want is for it to get caught in something fast and spinny. I'd recommend getting it cut actually to prevent it...

Yeah, I'd second what GM says, my wife works with helicopters, which are probably the fastest, spinniest things going and she, sadly, had most of her hair lopped off to prevent any unfortunate entanglements.

Lopped off by the rotors? I'd pay to see that....

Hair styling by Sea King would be considerably cheaper than hair styling by Toni & Guy as well, although probably more dangerous.
