Well I have just completed my first week at Glasgow Nautical College on the PD Engineer cadetship course and it has been very interesting!
I am staying in the Self Catered Flats at St Lukes and managed to score a room with a double bed which might come in handy
The College seems decent enough but slightly disorganised for our arrival, still I am sure things will start to run more smoothly in the coming weeks.
I am taking the Professional Diploma route (Foundation Degree in England) and already have 8 different units for this first part of College.
Currently I am taking courses in 1/Maths 2/Engineering Principles 3/Engineering drawing 4/ Pneumatics/Hydraulics 5/Marine Engineering Motor 6/Marine Engineering Steam 7/Marine Engineering General 8/Material Selection
I was slightly suprised at the number of different courses being taken but in reality only a few of them have 'exams', many of them are assessed by Reports/essays. I am still waiting on the College explaining to me how the points system works for the different units, which courses must be passed, how the graded unit works etc but I am sure this will all become clear in time!!.........
Everything is going well and we have already taken on a good bit of information and had some 'Maths homework'. The workshop looks great and I can't wait to get in there and start grinding, welding and generally getting to use all their fancy tools!
