  • Appendix Surgery.

Hi guys and gals, your not going to believe my luck! So yesterday morning I was rushed to hospital with severe stomachs pains after being up all night. After numerous tests they deduced I needed my appendix removed. Champion eh? Considering I'm due to start at WMA on the 23rd as a FD Deck cadet. Marvellous. I'll hopefully still be able to make it down, I'll make altenative travel arrangements from Newcastle as I cant do any heavy lifting, and will have to sit out any strenuous activities. Well at least this happened in my hometown, opposed to a strange city, or worse, the middle of the pacific. I'm posting this from my hospital bed, been up all night. Got a magnitude 10 snorer next to me. The op went well, should be out and on the mend today. Going to ring SSTG and inform them of the situation later on.

    Peace and love.

Sorry to hear about that, with a full recovery i'm sure you'll be back on your feet and sailing in no time at all.
At least you'll never have to worry about that Appendix when your at sea now!

Ooooo nasty, get well soon, mine went FUBA while in college too, passed out in class woke up and some bugger had built a hospital around me!

You should be ok in collegem though the Doc might not want you heading south quite so soon...."just in case" technically it's minimum 6 weeks on the sick and an ENG1 re-Test...mind as I say that's technically what you do Talk to SSTG, hey they may move you to Shields College

No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Yeah, every seafarer should have their appendix removed before going to sea, it's one of those things which is a bit of a Damoclean sword otherwise.
        Go out, do stuff

You should be ok in time. It usually just puts you out of stuff for a week. Except when the scar bursts open like mine did... just make sure they stitched you up right...

Thanks for the support guys. Spoke to SSTG. All is well. I'm already moving about at a reasonable pace (fast enough to get me to lectures). Not doing anything too strenuous, however this does mean I will miss out on paint balling on the first week!!! Not to worry, I'm glad I won't have to worry about my appendix going again. PS. Clanky, don't worry, even an incompetent northerner like me has heard the term 'sword of Damocles'. Must be a Southern thing.... Hahah just kidding.
