    - The chief should be signing your watch keeping testimonials - there should be a section in your TRB for this, the DSTO should only be filling in the progress reports.

    - You need specimen signatures for everyone who has signed your TRB

    - If you are doing UMS duty periods at least one day in every 3 then ALL of the time spent onboard is watch keeping time, if you have 98 days sea service during which time you have been assisting the duty engineer at least one day in 3 then you have 98 days watch keeping time and this is what should be entered in your sea service testimonial.

    Cadets need to be quite clear on this.

    I really don't get this. If you are doing watch-keeping one day in every three days over six months, then how can you possibly have six months worth of watchkeeping? You haven't kept a watch every day for all 6 months, only for two months of it!?
    I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

      24/72 = 4/12 = 1/3. That's the logic of it and that's how the MCA interpret it. Doesn't mean it's right that 1/3 UMS duties should be treated the same as 1/3 watchkeeping, but it is.

      Do you think cadets on UMS ships should serve a longer cadetship overall?

        What if you did it less frequently? My TRB I left blank... i'll see what the company say when it comes to orals time....

          Mine was abit of grey area , as i did day work but also did watches however the ship was UMS but with ratings down below on so called safety watches !!

          So my general working day was 8-12 watch then 1-4 day work and then 8-12 again on watch.

          Doing the standard rounds and log book readings during my watches whilst assisting the 2nd or 3rd during the day , and in the evening and mornings going around with the Duty officer on his round.
