no but you might want to glue one back together, it's as much ship construction as anything else, it's helpful to when working out why certain things are a certain way too, though simpsons rule is a major pain in the bum

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

It's learning how the ship is constructed so that when you as an officer goes off and inspects Ballast/Cargo tanks then you know what you're looking at.

Also, when you do load cargo's, you know the mathematics and the basics behind how your cargo and stability plans work.

They aren't going to teach it to you simply for the pure hell of it, there is a reason behind it. It also leads towards exemptions for your 2nd Eng's ticket if you have it, so stop whining and just do it.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

You need to have an appreciation of how it all goes together; it's as important for you to understand how the hull works and why/how it floats as it is the oily rotating bits. Your lecturer must be doing it wrong.
'... English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't
just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages
down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for
new vocabulary.' - James Davis Nicoll

I'm so sorry my boots aren't pretty enough for you, however, I don't care what they look like as long as they do their job. If you can't take someone telling you to deal with it without throwing your toys out of the pram and having a hissy fit, you're going to have a **** time at sea. Sorry, but that's the truth of it.

Section 9 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states explicitly that employers cannot charge employees for necessary safety equipment.

Regulation 4 of the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 states:
Every employer shall ensure that suitable personal protective equipment is provided to his employees who may be exposed to a risk to their health or safety while at work except where and to the extent that such risk has been adequately controlled by other means which are equally or more effective.

Or to put it plainly; we don't buy our own gear, the company does.

I dont see why you need rigger boots at all for naval arch..... i know its a bit of a heavy subject but to be fair if your going to drop text books on your feet at college your a muppet, and i dont mean a cute fuzzy one with a hand up its ar%e

but then if penfold is going to start throwing statues around maybe we can have hard hats too
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

I hope he's done all the required risk assessments and handed out all the appropriate PPE before he does start chucking them about!
