  • Where to buy uniform?

Just got my joining instructions and it has a decent amount of things I need to buy. Just wondering where everybody got their stuff? Where sells the best stuff, who sells the cheapest etc

I suppose... if you say what you need people might find it easier to advise you?

      Pretty much everything.
Uniform trousers, shirts, working trousers, NATO style jersey
Various stationary, is a drawing compass what you used to draw a circle at school? parallel rulers
A copy of International Pules on the Prevention of collisions at sea

Also looking for general information on what I've not been told I need but others know from they're experience is useful or necessary.

        - Miller Rayner, S.M Bass appear to be the 'specialists' for the Maritime industry and recommended by my sponsor. However, some people I know have bought jumpers etc.. from uniform suppliers for a relatively cheap cost.

        - I got my stationary from Amazon for quite cheap, think it all came to about ?20. That included paper for notes and other bits and bobs.

        - Who is your sponsor? As mine will apparently issue me with one of these books during phase one.

Are trousers like this acceptable or would I need just plain trousers?

No cargo trousers! Normal suit trousers, easily bought from any outlet will do. I used to buy mine in Matalan in Glasgow on Jamaica Street (?)

                  Or Burtons
                  Or M&S
                  Or BHS

Plain, black and sexy as a tatty sack

No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

I got my incredibly sexy black trousers from M&S. A lot of the kit is standard, like paying through the nose for black shoes would be unnecessary.

Yeah i think i got my trousers from BHS for about 9.99
white shirts were the similar, and from memory clyde arent fussed about you wearing pilot shirts with epaulettes at college and will provide you with sea going uniform anyway so dont go mad. get a decent tie as they look better and at some point your going to need it for a funeral, i had one with my suit for the reason,

If they are still asking for blazzers i think most people were getting the plain black asda one, for about ?25 it is technically a suit jacket but i dont think anyone is really that fussed and its the one thing that the uniform shop doesnt sell. just google what you want and you should find some reasonable options i would avoid the clyde shop as for most of it you will find it cheaper if you wish, or get better choice. but its a handy place if you just want it done
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky
