  • Any Meridian cadets?

I'm starting my cadetship in september and am confused about funding.

I've been told that I will have all my expenses paid, food, accommodation etc, but have a training allowance paid ON TOP of these expenses? I assumed this was the case until I saw lots of people on the forum explaining about paying their accommodation bills etc and its worried me.

I contacted meridian and they said 'accommodation, food and college training fees are all included in the sponsorship.' But that didn't really answer my question.

    Any help appreciated

    thanks

Not all companies pay for accommodation - very few in fact. However, Meridian appear to be one of the companies that does. You'll still get a training allowance, though it might be a bit lower than other companies simply because other companies expect their cadets to pay their accommodation costs out of their allowances.

You should receive a contract and/or training agreement soon, all the details should be in there!

Well my training agreement says over the 3 years i'll get 22 thousand pounds. I've heard meridian are really generous but this seems crazy!

I got my place 2 months ago but it still seems too good to be true!

That sounds about right if they're paying accommodation separately.

Yeah it's a great career - not for everybody but if you work hard and enjoy yourself you'll love it. You'll have some amazing experiences - just have a look at my blog for an idea (shameless self promotion!). It's a work in progress though, only up to mid-February at the moment, more updates coming tonight.

You may find that the 22K is the gross amount that you'll be earning but meridian will be witholding a certain amount of your monthly wage in order to pay for you food and accommodation and soforth. The remainder will be transferred to you as your usable income. I know a number of companies follow this procedure.

Given that roughly over the 3 years Clyde pay totals about 21K and theres another thousand available as a bonus for good looks. 22K isnt really that much money it will be if your not having to pay halls but i cant imagine that they will pay for food, if your living in a flat even if they are still paying the rent. basically its enough money to survive so be happy
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

Meridian are taking on there own cadets starting from Sept, I'm in phase 3 now and was explained all this before, far as I know you send of a monthly accomodation expenses form if your not living in the local hall's. Contact Sue and ask about the pay, cause im curious as to wether im going to recieve less or more than I do from SSTG

I am direct through meridian but this year was the last intake from sstg,
Sue said that if i decide to leave the halls i'll receive the same amount of money that they were paying for my halls, I'm assuming if I need more it'll have to come out of my allowance

I don't know how much you'll recieve from meridian wage wise, but the accomodation allowance will be roughly ?440 per month, give or take a bit. If you get a flat it usually works out a bit cheaper if you get a good rent rate.
