  • Fitted pilot shirts?

Does anyone know if you can get pilot shirts which are slightly fitted? If so, where?

I bought one of the ones from the clyde marine uniform website and although it fits ok and is the right collar size I find when I tuck it in it is a little baggy at the back and sides which I think could get annoying.

    Thanks for any help.

The majority of shirts in the UK are pretty bad quality. I, and most cruise-types I know of, use shirts from http://www.glendinnings.com.au/, but they're only feasible option if you happen to stop at certain Ozzie cities - don't think they ship abroad and if they do it'd be expensive and take ages.

Apparently though, some RN outfitters do decent shirts - might be worth investigating.

They do ship abroad, takes about 4 working days be DHL and if you buy in bulk price is quite reasonable

I noticed this about the pilot shirts just the other day! I am going to take them to a tailor to get the short sleeves, length and width better fitted, maybe you could try that as well?

Haha! Every time I've joined ship so far I've been told I'll need certain bits of uniform, and those were inevitabley the bits I didn't need. I was told when I joined the QM that the only thing I needed to take was khakis, which I duly went to Manchester to get (bit of a hike to say the least!) and when I got on board they laughed their heads off at me and told me I'd never wear it!

Last trip I called the ship and asked someone who actually knew....

Yeah its a little annoying, none of the uniform or ppe that i was given by clyde has been needed, boiler suits the worng colour and dont wear uniform on the plus side i wont have to replace any of it for college next term so thats all good

Clyde like to give their cadets EVERYTHING! One of my coursemates was given the most indecently see-through tight white shorts. She's never had to wear them, for which she is very grateful! Most cargo ships don't seem to do much in the way of uniform, it's only passie ships that go for the full kit and caboodle, and they provide most of it on board (though the quality of fit varies wildly)

On Cal Mac we were expected to mess in uniform which wasnt that bad, as i still have to change outta the boiler suit. My white shorts arent see through (clyde obviously got the memo about my fanastic ass and felt it needed to be kept outta site) and with the knee length white socks its just such a look, it showed off the blue in my winter legs perfectly

Clyde do supply pants, shirts etc but me and my class mates found the majority of the uniform to be ill fitting. Apart from the white shorts and socks, I had to get the rest of the uniform tailored to fit; The pilot shirts and nato jumper were far too long and wide and the pants were too baggy (think MC Hammer).

Only time I was out of uniform was when I went ashore, so investing in comfy shirts etc was worth it.
