Be sure to take em off as you go through security though. Some fella in stansted told me I was fine wearing my walking boots, then when I set the buzzer off had to have another fella come and search me :S

What company do you work for? I don't need to carry PPE with me because you get issued fresh items on board.

Did you actually set the sensor off with metal about your person? As well as picking up on actual metallic objects, the detector gates are also set to go off at random, or after every so many cycles, or at a remote command, to give the security bods an excuse to feel people up on a regular basis regardless of whether anyone is actually detected with metal.

The inconsistency of policy between different airports irks me. Some of the stupid ones insist that you remove boots, but not shoes. Can you magically hide things in a boot but not a shoe, that the metal detector will not pick up on, because of an extra inch of leather around your ankle? Fortunately Heathrow and Gatwick seem to be more sensible than the little regional airports with security directors who feel they have something to prove.

Well there is some metal in the boots, I have no idea how much metal is required to trigger the alarm though... Took the boots off at each airport after that

                Re: 1bag limit

I've got a fair amount of surgical metalwork in me plated to various bones and airport security can be a nightmare sometimes. Trying to explain to a foreign airport security officer why my leg and face is beeping when you can't see anything on the outside can be a challenge

As tlloyd pointed at, you could try to contact your company and ask if you could use the ships PPE if there's an issue with getting your own stuff through because of weight limits.

The only problem i encounter with ppe is , im 6ft 7 and have size 14 feet , and unfortunately they havent asked for any sizes so i guess i will have to take my own as they most likely wont have any in my size onboard

Ditch your PPE equipment, bring your safety boots if you really need them, your given overalls, head gear, boots etc on ship

                          Re: 1bag limit

The Seaman's baggage allowance has been removed, or so I hear. This is why the limit is now 20kg instead of 23kg. I didn't think there was a restriction on the number of bags you can take. I've seen people fly with 2 bags before.

For a large number of companies the supply of PPE is a requirement, but this does not necessarily mean on board. On cruise ships we're lucky to have a large uniform store but this is different for the cargo ships

Show a discharge book at the airport...sorted. Make a fuss. Its a seamans right!

They'll look up their rules and then go oh ok!

Seamans tickets still remains with most airlines 40kg or 2 bags of 23kg. The best place to check is www.checkmytrip.com as all seaman tickets appear on the Amadeus system.
Seaman's tickets, contrary to popular belief, are not the cheapest tickets you can buy. They are fully flexible tickets with additional baggage allowances, they are available at a rate far below the normal 'flexible economy' rate, but normally a lot more expensive then the cheapest promo or low cost airline flights.
