CMT no longer doing HND?

Today at college the CMT cadets from my phase were gathered up and told they were not doing the HND course ( despite signing the learning contract saying they were ) as companies are supposedly cutting back and being more wary. Apparently other companies are following this, has anybody else heard of this?

Just before we ended our current phase in Warsash, there was rumours which I think may have been confirmed that Warsash will no longer be offering the HND course. Something to do with funding shortfalls from the government. Could all be heresay, but it came from a very good source.

How far along in your course are you? Just started? Middle? End? Bit stupid of them doing it at any point when the course has already begun but a bit more serious for those towards the end if CMT are doing this.

Well, theres nothing on the warsash news link or anything about the courses... Or is that a little too nieve to think like that?
Slightly nerving seem as though I'm meant to start there in september for a HND. If it was something, I would have thought my company would let me know of minor changes; after all they seem to be well out of the economic climate situation with the amount of ships they have ordered, and their money is going even further else where. ...... Then again anything can happen .

It's just a baseless rumour. Warsash is still taking on cadets for HND.

We shall see. :-) I might be wrong, I hope I am, as I seriously do not think that the job of Ship's Officer requires a FD qualification. But my source is good.

i was told at my interview clyde have changed it to just HNC and not HND to make it more accesable for people...i dont really care as long as i get my watchkeeping certificate

It's been a big shock to the people who were told they aren't doing it anymore, a number of them have contacted Nautilus about it, as it was in there contract they would be sponsored for a HND !

can you clarify for us, have Clyde stopped you doing the course? Or will you be the last ones to do the HND?

I can't give you a 100% answer, my phase is the first to be told there not doing the HND from CMT, I'm not with them myself. Your best bet would be to ring them up, I don't know if there going to make this a permanent thing, but if any other colleges have CMT meetings coming up then its possible it could be about this.

I shouldn't think anyone is suggesting they'd cut HND courses short, just that they might stop running HND courses in the future.

That is what happened today, I'm in phase 3 so far and due to start the HND in September, but they were told there going to sea in July, coming back for 2012 January, then taking 8 weeks of oral prep.
