  • Trinity House Cadets

    Howaya,

I just got offered a cadetship with Trinity House during the week. I'm from NMCI in Ireland so I'm just wondering if anyone has any views or hints and tips with working with Trinity House.

    Hi bmsinno

I'm with Trinity too. Can't think of any tips right now but feel free to ask any questions you might have.

      Aw spot on Chris.

What kind of vessels did you sail on. Did you have any choice in what you got to sail on

Just about to start my sea phase (phase 2). I've been assigned a cruise ship though I didn't have any say in it.

I think the ETO specialism rather limits their choice of placement to cruise ships and some offshore ships. Some of the tasks I need to get signed off are specialised compared to the old ETO training (HND Engine with add on at the end).

If I was a TH deck cadet like size4rigger I could be sent on any type of ship. I believe she's been on 2 cruise ships and the TH ship so far.

Chris. Thats cool. Ye im still waiting on to see what kind of ships Ill sail on.

Jacloc It was all basic questions really. Why a career at sea. Why Merchant Navy, How will you deal will extended periods of time away from home. How will you deal with Multi National Crews. etc etc....

              Hi folks,

I've got an interview with Trinity too. Good luck to you jacloc!
Looking forward to it - this could be the first step towards the rest of my life!

Well done bmsinno, and thanks for the info.

Good luck to you too swishwellingtons

I have started watching the reruns of 'Mighty Ships' (started last night on Quest) to get me in the right frame of mind! Also looking forward to the new programme they have been plugging, 'Against the tide', about the Clipper sailing race, (tonight 9 pm) that's the kind of boats I am used to so I need to think bigger!

                      Re: Trinity House Cadets

just finished a contract on a Damico bulk carrier. I joined my first ship at the end of July and this was a trinity ship. They wont tell you what ship your going on until about two weeks before at the very earliest. On my last contract I only found out the day before I flew out. My main tip is be prepared to wait a long time for placements but once you get your first one your on the payroll and your grand then.
