Rowdy,
As a seaman, when flying to join/leave a ship you're given a 40kg baggage allowance.
Remember that you're actually going away somewhere to live and work for a few months, ergo you'll need a lot more gear than heading off on holiday.
Whilst adequate amounts/variety of clothing is of course a no brainer, it's all the other little things which make life away that bit more bearable/comfortable.

Hi Malim,
I guess it's just very different from the amount of luggage we are allowed to take on RN ships, it's good to know I can take a few creature comforts with me thoughLuck......Preperation times Opportunity.

So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Be aware that occasionally airlines don't honour this (koff easy jet) and selected others - however the "feign ignorance works occasionally, when all else fails pay for it yourself and bitch at your company until they reimburse you :-)
It's worth remembering that shipping company travel departments are generally utterly useless, so always check beforehand!

Re: what do i need when planning for sea going
Hi,
I am currently packing for going away on my first trip and I was wondering what in terms of notes from college willl I need to take with me if any. I was thinking Celestial, Nav maths etc and was just going to leave my cargo and stability notes as i feel most crew members will have a decent knowledge of those subjects, unlike celestial. Can anyone advice as to what they have done in past experiences.
thanks
