What/how many vaccinations do you get before going to sea? And do you get these before starting college?

      Re: Vaccinations.

Mike, yours would be specific to RFA policy?

I guess Clyde Marine have their own policy which is probably similar for worldwide trading. Clyde have their own doc (and presumably a nursey for injections) at their HQ in Govan.

I've had TDP, MMR, and I'm guessing I've had Men C.. I guess I'll be seeing the Clyde Marine doctor then (:

Are they paid for by the company? Some of them are quite expensive when I had to get them when I was in China a few years ago.

Your company will pay for them (and arrange what ones you require)... generally you will get Yellow Fever (since you cant visit some countries without it), you will also probably get; Hep A+B, Typhoid, Polio, Tetanus, Men. C (if you don't already have them) and a selection of others.

A lot of them can be combined into one, although Hep B (or it could be A) is 3 vaccinations over a period of months.

The big problem with Yellow Fever is that if you arrive at one of the countries that require it, and haven't got a certificate, they will reputedly administer it to you with or without your consent in conditions that may not be as sanitary as you'd like.

Must be Hep B, the one I've not had as I try not to deal with random bodily fluids on a regular basis. Hep A is a booster after 1 year and then every 20 years (recent change from 10 years).

                Re: Vaccinations.

I've been having them this year for my trip to borneo. I had 2 hep A's (although the first had typhoid in it aswell) and 3 hep B's on there own at 28 days and 6 months after.

Its kind of annoying because im paying for all these which in 6 months time, if all goes to plan, a company would be paying for me to have them done!
