  • Swapping Maritime Academies

    Hi,
I was wondering whether it is possible to swap my current academy to another without starting studies from the beginig.I study in Odessa's Maritime Academy on the 3d course(I am sure nobody heard about it cause it's in Ukraine ).do i have to pass some kind of exams? What is the procedure itself?
    Thanks in advance)

No idea!! I doubt that you would get much info from here as this a predominantly British site. Best of luck though.

I understand that it's predominantly EU site but the idea is to find EU Academy because there is lack of diploma recognition to all ex soviet union countries)

I have sailed with numerous Ukrainian officers, in various ranks.

Once qualified your licence is recognised as the same as everyone else's - to sail on ships with a flag other than the Ukraine you will however require flag endorsements for your licence (this may be what is confusing you when you say your licence is not recognised). Acquiring the flag endorsement isn't a big deal and whatever company you eventually work for will take care of the paperwork for you.

Once you qualify contact one of the international shipping companies or agencies with offices in Ukraine (such as V. Ships).

This is the same regardless of what nationality you are and where your licence was issued.

ASP have manning office's over in the Ukraine as well, but I do know some companies don't like hiring Ukrainians as they tend to have problems with them (lack of maintenance, alcohol, etc) but I personally think it's a bit daft as all nationalities have good and bad.

Anywho, switching over to a maritime college *might* be possible but you would need to check with the institutions themselves. I know a lot of students come from the Indian, Philipino and Nigerian colleges to the UK with no problems so your better off checking with each college.
