  • Fridge?!

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a little fridge for my time at college but I'm unsure as to what size would be appropriate?

The tiny fridges that only fit a couple of cans in aren't really fridges, they're more coolers!

Any ideas would be appreciated ;-)

anything lower than 40l would be suitable

I could absolutely not cope with sleeping in a room with a fridge humming at me all night... That would be hell.
I'd have to get a tent and sleep in the woods nearby!

I'm going to do what nemo said in the progress thread and sort out what I need in the first week. You need to know what your room is like before you start buying things like fridges. Your room mate may already have a fridge he would be kind enough to let you use, or you could go halves on buying a fridge.

            Re: Fridge?!

i went and had a look at the college last week and the rooms are pretty small if your staying in catered i would advise getting a mini fridge, there is a large fridge in the kitchen in the halls but if you put anything in there theres a pretty big chance it will be eaten. Also as lunch is'nt provided it works out far cheaper to make your own food rather than buy it from the canteen cos the canteen is pretty expensive so getting a decent sized fridge would be a good idea. as for the humming sound im pretty sure you can get almost silent fridges these days pear it might not be the best idea to share a fridge cos you wont be able to get very much in and also your roomie could easily just eat your food, my sisters in uni atm and she often gets little things stolen off her by the people she would least expect. security is an issue when staying in halls

Honestly, what do you need a fridge in your room for anyway?! Milk for your tea?! There are alternatives: uht; whitener; or just non-milk teas and drinks. Next you''' be discussing what kind of microwave oven to put in; or whether to get a little tumble dryer!

I also seriously doubt the value of keeping a telly and video games console in there... surely you want to get out and meet people and do things, and just use your room for sleeping and studying in - or am I just old-fashioned?!

I would have thought that the only sensible item to take would be a fridge.. unless you like all your drinks warm..

And microwaves are not allowed in rooms.

Nemo, I'm an outside type guy too, but I can't live without my milk and other chilled food stuffs. Imagine having a warm beer or ale! A fridge is not just there to keep food cool, it is good company. "A fridge is for life not just for Warsash".

I'm prepared to give up my telly, xbox, kettle and a few other things just so I can have a fridge during my stay.

And if anyone ate my food, I will chain my fridge up and padlock it.

Beer and Ale is supposed to be warm ... chilled beer is for chinless foppish continentals and dough-chinned cross-eyed yanks... or a dying breed of those who like throwing cans of wifebeater down their tattooed red necks like dressers/townies.

well I'm no expert on drink, but I know milk tastes so much better when chilled and I get through a lot of it.

The only drinks I've discovered that taste decent chilled are some cocktails, cider after a hot days work, and a G&T. I even found that lager is better chilled, especially Wifebeater, much more flavour than the rest.

dam why does the pub i work in spend thousands each year on keeping the beer cold. they should just serve it warm if thats how you like it . and it will go stail quicker meaning the beers more fresh as we will get more deliveries
                            Maybe I will never be

Now's the time to find out why

You mean lager... not "ale"... and warm doesn't mean bubbling away like a mug of hot chocolate does it
You store the beer in refridgerated rooms, but you don't need to dip the keg in liquid nitrogen like they seem to when serving anything in a pint glass these days.
