  • Carnival Assessment

    Hi All

Been invited to a Carnival assessment day, and have heard they do it in the format of tests / exams then an interview? Can anyone shed come light on this so I can prepare as best as possible? I've been told there's some maths tests etc, what kind of level does this go to? As i don't have A Level maths and my skills become seriously blunt in the 3 years since I left college!!

    Thanks All

I went for the carnival assesment day a few months back and it was 5 seperare tests. 4 aptitude tests and one maths tests that goes upto A Level. However they only ask you to answer the A Level Question if you're applying for the foundation Degree. If you're just going for the HND it just goes up to High Level GCSE. As far as I know if you pass the tests you are invited for a further interview down at Carnival House is Southhampton. You can use BBC Bitesize to revise for the maths and 'Talent Q' to revise for the aptitude tests.

Having done these tests myself in November, I felt the best revision was past papers. Past papers give you a good idea how to answer the types of questions you may be asked. I come from Scotland so had never done a GCSE course before, after doing 6 papers in a week, I managed to get 90% on the carnival test so past papers from GCSE exams are what I recommend.

Hi I've been topping up my GCSE maths, I was just wondering is the entry exam calculator or non-calculator? So I know what to focus on

The paper is a mix between the two. The paper is split into 4 sections (if i remember correctly). The first section is non calculator and this is done by everyone. The other three are calculator papers and you will be told to do 2 sections out of these three depending on which route you have chosen. I hope this comes as a help to you even though we are somewhat in competition. Good Luck

Maths paper pretty easy. aptitude tests I found nigh on impossible.. So don't reckon I'll be wearing a Carnival Shirt if I make it to Warsash in September.

Sorry to hear that, Kadet. I wouldn't give up hope just yet though - aptitude tests are as it says on the tin - they are looking at the areas for which you have an aptitude. Maybe they then use that information to tailor your training later? I don't know. But good luck anyway.
PS I did aptitude tests at school that indicated I should be a forestry worker. They even went as far as getting me a careers leaflet for the Forestry Commission. I think I may have had a lumberjack shirt in the 80s...

Feeling the same as Kadet, can't help but feel demoralised after revising for it literally since January. However everything happens for a reason...best of luck to all who have their assessments this week though

                      Dont lose hope Kadet.
I did the assessment day for Princess 3 years ago which, from what I gather is pretty much the same as Carnivals. I was told I failed the maths (having not done maths for 7 years prior to the exam) and I got average results on the aptitude tests. However I got the job on the strength of my interview. I didnt have a single resit during my cadetship and that goes to show why they made that decision. It isnt necessarily a pass/fail on any of them. Its the day as a whole.
Just wait and see. Good luck.

Chin up guys. I feel its a bit of a lottery sometimes when you do stuff like this, especially with negative marking in force !

There were various aptitude tests. Mental maths, and problem solving to name a few
