Clyde Marine Questions!

Hi all,

For those who have gone through the Clyde Marine Training recruitment process, could you answer some questions for me? (opinions by those who haven't are always welcome too!)

1. If you receive an offer from Clyde, when you make your choices; do they give you a list of companies still available, or do they just give you the master list to choose from? (so if you choose three that already have full slots, then hard luck)

2. If anyone knows: Do Clyde deal with the allocation process after we've all started college, or is it a first come first serve type deal? (I ask because I had a late interview and would hate to get "what's left" purely because of where I live.)

I also feel the need to say I would be extremely grateful if I get an offer and get allocated to any company, even if I would not have chosen it myself so please no "Just be grateful" or "it doesn't matter" comments please.

Clyde give you a full list which is basically a PDF of what's on their website.

The companys that do second interviews (Disney, NMM etc) are dealt with in advance. The remaining allocations are done after the college start. This is so everyone gets a fair chance at getting their preferred sponsor regardless of the offer date.

How CMT actually do their allocations is a mystery known only to a few wise monks up on a hill top somewhere.....allegedly...

However, if someone is on good terms with them and fancies asking the question then we won't stop you

I was interviewed the middle of this month and then Clyde got in touch last week and told me outright NMM had read my file and wanted to phone me as there wasn't time for a second interview before January, (obviously I've accepted).

however my interviewer sad it was a case of matching the numbers needed by the companies to the numbers of cadets. And then finding out at college if you got what you picked.

I've been told a couple of weeks ago that I passed the interview stage but they can't make me a formal offer until they get all the details they need from their sponsor companies, but they'd keep my details on file and be in touch. What do you think the likelihood of a January start is for me? Do you think if I don't get January they'd defer me to September? Or just make me apply all over again?

I don't know how much truth there actually is to that statement from CMT they will just leave you hanging with no update for months. You have to keep calling and chasing it up.

I can add that we got told there are specific requests from companies for HNC/HND(SPD) places so even though the rumor mill says there are x available at a company (eg sept 2014 Royal Caribbean has only 1 cadet and its HNC).

I still think they throw our names at a dart board.

Basic rule of thumb, Pick your preferred/favourite outcome, Pick 2 more that you wouldnt complain being with. Unless you are really unlucky you WILL get one of the three (especially if its zodiac...theres like 80 of us in phase 1 september atm).

At least thats the advice I got here and I am not complaining so far.

Nope. 1 is FD and 2 are HNC

FD is a deck, 1 HNC is Deck and the other is HNC engineering

I don't think they took any more than the 5 already mentioned then lol
