  • 16 years old should I apply for next years carnival September intake.

Hi I am just about 16 and by the end of the year I might just apply to carnival Uk to chance my luck and attempt to get an engine cadetship. Is there much point in me applying for carnival UK for sep 2014 intake even though I will be only 17 for my first sea phase. I am aware that I should apply to all company's but I might as well try and apply for the company I prefer the most and if I am unsuccessful I would apply to all company's for the sep 2015 intake. Any advice, should I chance my luck.

    thanks Robert

If you meet their entry requirements then you stand as good a chance as someone who's 20 go for it. But don't apply with the attitude of "what 'av I got to loose!" But with a positive, committed attitude. That should help you improve your application.

By august I should have achieved national 5s(gcse equivalent) In maths, physics, English, graphics communication, English, chemistry and history so should get a few As and Bs and by next year I should achieve highers(a level) in physics, chemistry, maths, English, history which should make me eligible for the foundation route.

Personally I wouldn't, stay at school and get the highers you would need and apply when your slightly older

however if you meet the requirements this year then there is no reason why the company cant give you a fair shot at it
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

I would also suggest staying on and getting the highers, I don't think a cruise ship would be half as fun as a cadet if you're not legally old enough to drink.

I've been offered a sponsorship to start in January 2015 with Carnival UK when I will be only 16! They are full for September this year, so if you apply now then it will be for January.

I would say to wait. Try getting a job and a flat. To many people start to young and drop out.

Thank you meg and everyone else. I will have my highers which should enable me to do the foundation route. That's the only thing that worries me about it, I may be classed by officers as a joke and will prevent me from getting stuck in like other adult cadets. Also alcohol I believe is a big part of socialising on cruise ships which again I will be prevented from obviously. I think i will apply for next year just to chance my luck

Don't worry about it, we class some officers as being a bit of a joke too....

Anywho, out of curiosity, does it have to be cruise ships? Could always go and start on tankers and the like?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Any ship would be fine Guinnessman I just hadn't heard of stories of young cadets(16) on cruise ships. Tankers would be a great option.
