  • Colour Blindness and Engineering Officer

    Hello,

I want to become a engineering officer in the Merchant Navy, however I am slightly colour-blind. I was just wondering if this would be a major problem and what companies take on people who are colour blind.

    Thanks,
    Terack

If you do a quick search through the forum you'll find a big thread about it as we did have a chap here with the same concerns as you a while back.

He's not been on in a while, but if you PM Stronglead he should be able to help....

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Have the same problem. I have a colour deficiency but i applied a while ago to sit another colour vision test called the farnsworth d-15 test and the city university test which I passed which makes me eligible for a full engineer eng1. As long as you are able to pass one of these test mentioned you will get a full eng1 medical certificate. I took this these tests in the Caledonian university in glasgow. If you have any problems ask your optician about were you are able to sit the farnsworth d-15 test and the city university test. If you are unable to pass these tests maersk take on colour blind cadets but you will be unable to work with coloured cables. Hope this helps
