  • When is it acceptable to chase an application?

I've seen comments made on here that chasing an application a few times can be a good thing and makes you seem fairly keen.

My question is, how long after last correspondence is it acceptable to chase said application? Obviously I want to seem keen but equally I understand I need to give them time to consider it. I'm anxious as I'd at least like to know whether I'm being considered for September or January.

    Thanks in advance,

For me, not very long at all. Even very soon after sending it in, a quick "just wanted to confirm you rec'd it" phone call after a few days demonstrates you are keen, and also puts your mind at rest because you're on the front foot and being proactive. They will usually indicate when you can expect to hear, and if they don't, ask! It is an entirely reasonable question.

Thanks - I can't use the "have you received it" line as they've emailed to say they're considering it. I was asking because they've sent me an email saying they're processing and will be in contact regarding interview. I can't work out if that means I'm going to get an interview, or whether I might get one. I only heard back on Friday, so I'm thinking ringing this week would be a bit premature? But equally, their email said if I required any further information I should contact them. Should I at least wait until the end of the week? I don't even know if I'm being considered for September or January - at least if I knew it was January, I'd feel a little better about not eharing for a while.....

I wouldn't be to concerned about September - there is still plenty of time - some companies will most likely still be interviewing in June / July for September.

Personally, I'd give it a couple of weeks before enquiring - they've acknowledged receipt which is certainly more than some companies do, so they'll certainly contact you to let you know if you have an interview or let you know if you have been unsuccessful.

If your interview location isn't Glasgow or Southampton, then that letter means you've been accepted for interview. The other locations are done in bulk so they don't know the date for those locations. If you can get to Southampton/Glasgow easily, it may be worth ringing them to change location. You'll get the interview far sooner that way.

                      Hello,

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but try to keep questions like this in the open. Just so it can help the next person that comes along as well!

Hi Jacob - thanks! I'll definitely give them a call either tomorrow or Friday, see what they say. Like I've said previously however, I don't want to chase it up prematurely. It's not even been a week since I had the letter yet....
