  • Late applications

    Hi all,

I'm looking to get an idea of how many of the companies who sponsor Deck Cadets are still going to be accepting and processing applications with a view to starting in September of this year.

I've identified a couple - Viking and SSTG being two for example, but with some it is hard to tell as they appear to just remove the apply here link rather than state a deadline.

    Any pointers much appreciated!

call them would be the best bet I imagine - it also shows you want to do it and it's not an afterthought!

Hi there, Carisbrooke are about to begin their recruitment process, and James Fisher and Sons don't start until May so there's two you could apply to for sure. Bibby began taking online applications from the 1st March so I'd get hold of them as well.

      all the best.

I'm also interested in this, I'll be applying to every company on the careersatsea website, so it'd be great to get updates on who is still recruiting and who's deadlines have passed.

I have already done this before the weekend.

This is the email I sent to ALL of the recruitment Companies

            Dear Sir,

My name is Ian ***********. I an a Careers at Sea Ambassador, Moderator of the Officercadet.com website and a helper of potential cadets.

Currently on the officercadet.com website we are getting a lot of requests from potential cadets trying to find out which companies are still recruiting for September 2014.

Rather than posting guesses and second hand information I am contacting every com+pany listed on the Careers at Sea Website to ask them if they are still recruiting for September 2014 and how many vacancies they are recruiting for. I appreciate that some recruitment Companies may not know actual numbers and therefore would ask if you do not know the actual number that you put after the answer "estimated" if it is not a known figure. Companies recruiting for a number of Shipping Companies would help if they indicated which Companies they are still recruiting for.

I would appreciate a simple email in return with the answers to these four questions:

            1) Are you still recruiting for September 2014?
            2) How many vacancies are you looking to recruit for. "estimated" if not totally accurate?

            3) Are your applications through CV, online application or paper application form?

            4) If you are an agency act for a number of Companies, which of your Companies by name are you recruiting for?

I will start a thread on Officercadet.com and keep it up to date if you send me an occasional update email.

            Thanks and regards

            Ian ***********

I will keep you all informed of the responses from the companies as they come in.

Excellent idea hatchorder will save the bi annual questions and panic, shame the careers at sea website doesn't post this information anyway, not everyone perhaps finds this forum.

As an aside, when I filled in the Chiltern form, it came up with a carbon copy of the screen/corresponding email that I received when I filled in the Viking form. The same appears so for Trinity House. Do your applications for these three go into one big pot effectively or are you still supposed to apply for them all individually.

Apply individually! I rang up and question this, but you need to fill it out 3 times. Luckily, auto fill should do the trick on most parts

Thanks Inland Pirate, I fear that the Chiltern one went through three times as I kept thinking it was an error, however better safe than sorry I guess.

Is Viking normally fairly quick at responding do you know? They would be my preferred sponsor.

                        Ian

Thank you for this, it would be great to keep updated.

From my research, I have found that Maersk and Princess have filled their 2014 intake already. Plenty of the companies are accepting until End of April and some even go on until May. I believe James Fisher falls into the latter category.

As for careersatsea being out of date. The Bibby application page isn't the same, nor is the company website they link. Bibby require an application form (available on their website) to be sent to: [email protected] rather than what is on the careersatsea page. If I find more out, I shall update as well.

Anyone know what the current state of Carnival is? Their job search has a Cadet category, but when selected it doesn't find any positions.

They've changed their site yet again I would assume that as it's not finding anything that they are currently not recruiting for September intake. Just a guess given that Princess (although their program is separate) has stopped looking for 2014.
