Whats is the ammount of leave u get once you are a qualified officer? is it something like 4 months on 1 month off?

    Re: Leave!

Depends on company and type of ship.

    RFA's do 4 on 3 off,
Cruise ships I think generally do something like 4 on 2 off (but don't quote me on it)
And then some north sea outfits I think do a ratio of 1:1, but im not sure of trip lengths.

I think you can be sure of more than 1 month off after a 4 month stint though whoever your with.

      Re: Leave!

It depends on the company entirely.

I think that Carnival generally operates 4 on 2 off, but this can change if an officer is needed on another ship. Some cruise companies do 1 on 1 off, it's completely up to the company

Shell & BP is 3 on 2 off isn't it?
The Boxboat ratio seems about right... daywork for 5.5/6 days a week 8-5 I think.
...it's worth factoring in shift patterns... RFA has it's 8 on 4 off thing; maybe similar for oilies.

Alright, so he was really selling you the leave then lol! That sounds like virtually 1:1, which I would find surprising.
Did you get told about whether it's shiftwork or daywork?

                  Re: Leave!

nope. but on the clyde cd i have somewhere it states that most ships make you do day work with also two 4 hour watchkeeps i think the 4th officer does 4-8 and so forth.

                    Re: Leave!

According to the Shell recruitment blurb in the NUMAST telegraph the 1 month on/28 days off is only for Senior Officers.
The standard leave pattern for Junior Officers in Deepsea companies is 20 days leave for every month served, although more and more and moving towards 1 for 1.
