    Just a reminder folks

No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

                      Ok Guinness, correct me please

Whilst at study, maintenance grants or salaries are around 5000 a year rising to what 8000 a year for the final 3rd year whilst study based courses are in process.

Once completed and have a few years in the industry then the annual pay for an officer working......deck 2000+ pounds a month and an engineer.........how much?

Depends on the sector. Cruise is the lowest paid but then you get to go nice places and they have dancing girls. Offshore and superyacht stuff is probably the highest. Tankers are not bad either. I would think people earning ?60k a year on container ships are few and far between. Most of them are crewed by guys from the Far East or Eastern Europe who will accept significantly lower salaries that we would. Maersk and some other companies still employ European officers and maybe their Captains or C/E are on that sort of money (no idea tbh) but I don't think its sort of thing you are going to be earning after 5 years. Not on containers anyway.

For deck you are talking 3/O would be earning ?25k-?35k starting off I would say. The lower end of that would be cruise and top whack for offshore etc as I mentioned. I'm not sure about engineer salaries but would imagine they would be similar. Obviously you'll get annual pay raises as with all industries but they are pretty crap at the moment due to the economy. To be earning ?60k+ (?5k a month that you mentioned) I imagine you are talking captain or C/E salary there. Maybe some chief mates are on that if they are in the right sector with a lot of experience. And salaries on some superyachts are completely ridiculous but I reckon opportunities on those would be difficult to come by without extensive experience.

The above is a bit of guesswork based on what I have read on here in the past few years and from looking at job adverts and knowing roughly what some of my mates are getting paid in different sectors. Anyone with more experience feel free to correct me but I don't think I'm too far out.

Your understanding of cadet salaries is about right, although again depends on the company. Some pay significantly more than others.

Bear in mind that it is not all about money. Superyachts for example. You can earn staggering amounts of money but could end up working 11 months of the year.

Think the lowest paid are on about 7k a year with the highest being 12k , then the UAE lot say their on about 2k-4k a month haha
