  • carnival uk cadetships- good enough qualifications to join?

just simply need some advice on whether anyone thinks these predicted grades will be good enough, they probably will, but im paranoid they wont be, and i really want this oppurtunity tbh :/ im in year 12, so i'll apply when im in year 13 octoberish time

    A Level History- A
    A level English Literature-B
    Maths-A
    AS Physics-B
    AS Further Maths- B

cheers, i guess these are just predictions, so could fluctuate, so whatever you think are acceptable grades for carnival uk.
i know its not just about grades, and i have other things which are to my advantage, but as far as those grades are concerned, good enough?

      From Carnival UK website:

      Higher National Diploma Route
High grade passes at GCSE (grades A - B) / Scottish Standard level (1 - 2) or the equivalent in English, Mathematics, Physics or Combined Science and at least one other subject.

      Foundation Degree Route
A minimum of 160 UCAS points (including a numerate subject) plus good grades in GCSE Maths, English and a Physical Science.
As long as you have these, you can apply. Apart from that, actually getting the place is down as much to aptitude and personality as academics.

yes great grades they may see you as TOO acedemic though. is this for the FD why not try for the full degree . with carnival this its around 180 220 ucas which is 3 ds or 3 cs

Not wanting to blag but I have an engineering degree and they didn't even give me an interview. Said I wasn't what they are looking for.

I think the grades part is just to weed out some people before they select those to interview.

Re: carnival uk cadetships- good enough qualifications to jo

Not sure about this. I have more than 160 UCAS points and 9 A or A* passes at GCSE including iGCSE Maths and Physics. I didn't even get an interview

I got another sponsor and they were really nice and very complimentary about my performance at interview and my academic qualifications. I imagine that Carnival get a lot of applicants but you have to wonder sometimes at the discrepancy between the criteria they publish and what they actually do.

I was a bit upset about Carnival at the time but I am now quite glad as I am sure cruise passengers might become a bit tedious after a while!

Good luck with Carnival and I hope you make but don't despair if it doesn't go your way. There are other good places out there to try.

The thing to remember with Carnival is the sheer number of applications they receive - it's very difficult to get through so many people and when a lot of those people have the same sort of qualifications and experience it makes selection even more difficult. You need to make sure you stand out. Do you have a job at the moment tav? Some experience in hospitality/customer service is always beneficial.

i worked for sainsbury's as a customer service assistant, i can speak norwegian, and i went on a tour of a cruise ship bridge with the captain and second officer, the company arranged it for me, which was pretty good
i have proof in a letter from the captain.

im guessing its those type of things they want as well? also i have met the recruitment officer at warsash, i dont know what more i could do to be honest

It's different strokes for different folks. Some are attracted to the social and dare I say glamorous side of cruise ships, while others are drawn to the world of cargo/support/tankers etc which provide a completely different view of the world.

I am sure you will be fine tav, just be confident and be yourself. I imagine the Norwegian speaking will be very useful on a cruise ship, it is quite unusual and lots of cruise ships go up to that region. I only speak French and Spanish I am afraid and any Tom, Dick and Harry has those. The customer service skills must be very important when you are dealing with people all the time so that will stand you in good stead. Once again jolly good luck and fingers crossed.
