once quailified how does the pay system work are you paid monthly at the end of each journey/tour. for example if your on 30000 Pa but as a seafarer only work 6mounths 3 on 3 of do you get 30k or 15k i once rember talking to a zodiac engineer who said they get paid. 1/1 when on ship and 3/2 when off. so he said if he worked for 3 months and had 3 mounths leave he would only get paid for the first 2 months.

Re: pay whilst ashore
I think the most common systems are either a set salary through the year or pay only while at sea. In the latter case, the monthly pay would be more to "make it up".sigpicHello! I'm Chris. I'm away a lot so I'm sorry if it takes me a while to reply to messages, but I promise I'll get back to everyone. If it's urgent, please email me directly at [email protected].

Re: pay whilst ashore
Wages are normally spread evenly over 12 months.
The other alternative is being on a day rate/consolidated pay where you're on double wages as you don't get paid when on leave.
The system of only being paid when onboard harks back to ye days of yore before everyone had bank accounts and thus proper salaries (i.e. paid by the hour). It is also where the term 'paying/paid off' comes from, in that at the end of the voyage the representative from the Shipping Federation/Marine Office would come aboard the ship and witness everyone having their voyage wages handed over.
