Hi, I'm sending applications off in December, and many ask 'do you have an ENG1 certificate?' - I was just wondering whether its possible to go and have the medical when you're not sponsored by a company?

Yes, anyone can have an ENG1 done regardless of employment/sponsorship.
I would recommend that you wait though unless you're worried about a medical condition which might affect your eligibility.sigpicHello! I'm Chris. I'm away a lot so I'm sorry if it takes me a while to reply to messages, but I promise I'll get back to everyone. If it's urgent, please email me directly at [email protected].

The only point in doing an ENG1 in advance is if you think there is a good chance that you might not pass a medical.
I am on my phone or i would provide links, but a forum search for ENG1 and a Google search for ENG1 m-notice should give some useful information.Go out, do stuff

It was just that I wanted to ensure that I didn't leave any part of the application blank, and I thought that it could have worked in my favour as it shows that I'm medically fit. Yes it is possible. One of the few things you need to be sponsored in or company employment for is the Discharge Book and Seaman's card as the application form needs to be countersigned by company rep....I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....
All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.
