Can anyone direct me to the 'statistics' of getting a position as a cadet?

At the moment, I am trying to convince someone that it's not that easy to get a position anymore and you do need some sort of edge.

I remember seeing it somewhere on here, but I can't find the thread - it mentioned the number of applications in comparison to the amount of positions.

    Does anyone know this information?

    Thanks in advance.

I know you've found it but oh well. SSTG said they had about 25 applications per place, Maersk about 30 per application.

A good comparison is that Oxbridge have 5 applicants for each place.

        Here you are - http://www.officercadet.com/showthre...highlight=odds

Just wanted to try and convey to someone that you do need an edge in order to increase your chances.

Thank you. I knew the number of applicants per position was high, but not that high - very interesting!

The MNTB http://www.mntb.org.uk/ publish in their newsletter new entrant information on cadets per year, currently running around 900+. Plenty of opportunities for those keen and interested in a career at sea. It does permit the shipping companies and manning agencies a good opportunity for selection and therefore the application forms need to be given serious consideration.

But a lot of people apply to a lot of companies then take a place with the best one for them.

So CMT might have a lot of applications but I imagine a lot of people decline places with them.

Actually, that could skew the figures completely....
