  • CMT query(s)

    Hi guus,
What companies should i realistically propose as my preferences for clyde marine? I am aware of the better (chevron) and worse companies.
Also what is the weekly pay for a CMT cadet doing the FD route?

Maybe I'm missing something, but if I were you I'd propose the companies I'd prefer to work for?

I'm told that if you put the companies you want to work for, then they'll at least try to get you a company in the same sector. How true that is I have no idea though

It is true to an extent. I put mostly deep sea and I got......deep sea (although not with Zodiac).

Weekly pay, regardless of route, can be found on their website and has been done to death on here....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

I realise that at times people may make spelling mistakes or errors with their grammar when posting on here, however I must admit I hate reading posts that contain phrases such as 'obv' 'ino' is it really that hard just to write the full word or phrase out?

Also you are asking about the weekly pay, it's easily found on Clydes website. If you are asking about what companies to choose I am guessing you have been successful at the interview stage, did it not cross your mind to ask what the pay was then?

Sorry if I seem to be being a bit harsh, maybe it's just because I am posting so late at night....

In response to your question, Clyde will try to put you with one of the three companies you request therefore it would make sense to put the three you want to work for regardless of how many other people may also request them. I didn't get any of my three choices and I know numerous other Clyde cadets who experienced this, I did however end up getting an interview with NMM who I am now sponsored by.

As far as middle ground companies go, I'm not sure. I don't quite understand why you say "obviously I want to get Subsea 7, Chevron and up offshore-whoever they are? Is this just from the point of view that you have heard they are good companies and what criteria are you basing this on, future employment opportunities, holidays, rota and time spent away at sea, training given etc? Chevron are deep sea tankers, Subsea 7 is offshore work and a lot to do with ROV's, so you are talking about two very different fields of work within the shipping industry.

Nope.... you are not wrong. To my mind if those that come on here asking for help cannot put the effort in, on the basis that you are "Officers in Training", then nor can I. Where are the standards folks?

Star Trek would not be the same if it started off like this.
'To go boldly where no man has gone before'... Depends if you find split infinitives irritating or not I suppose. Just like using neither/nor either/or rules. There is also the I would if you could and I should if you would ones too.

There's a big difference between pedantry* and objecting to bad grammar. I agree with Hatchorder: an Officer is responsible for ensuring that standards are upheld. Attention to detail should therefore be a defining competency.

*Anyone who objects to split infinitives is a pedant. Read Modern English Usage by Fowler for a more learned explanation than I could offer.

The lovely Hatchorder always writes beautifully, he is also a good 'egg' who spends a great deal of his time helping people on here. He is not the only one either. His list of what to take to sea was very useful too.
I wonder if the use of 'text' speak is because younger people use that format for a lot of their communication? Perhaps they see forums in a less formal way, and therefore use a language which they are used to using elsewhere.
It doesn't mean they would write a letter, report or c.v. in that way though.
To boldly go or go boldly, I don't feel strongly about, but I ain't got no apples, I do find irritating. Even if in modern English usage it is acceptable.
There is of course the very useful predictive text, I'm quite sure it changes words once you hit the send button . Better go way off thread here!
