Choosing a sponsoring company.

Hi, I have been fortunate to get a place with CMT. I am now in the process of picking three sponsoring companies. I'm considering picking three of the following. British Marine lpc, Chevron, Lomar, Union Maritime, Royal Caribbean cruises and Disney Cruises.

My question is which companies would be best for time ashore, visit more places, do the best training and have the best accommodation ect?

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. Clyde will probably ignore it.
If time ashore is most important thing your looking for you might want to have a think if this is best job for you?

Majority of those companies are tanker companies and you won't get a massive amount of time ashore with them as they will have quick turn-arounds, be in the middle of no-where, won't be in a safe area, be on SBM's, etc.... The cruise companies, just don't even bother....

Absolutely correct. When I signed up for my cadetship with Clyde, I put down a number of deep sea sponsoring companies. This was completely ignored and I was placed on standby vessels in the North Sea.

I'm with Odfjell, in three weeks I've already had two runs ashore in Texas and North Carolina. Loading/Discharging is sequenced and can take a while dependant on the cargo, the loading gear and the port. Incidentally, I never put down Odfjell, but I did want to work on tankers and put down Chevron and Knutsen OAS. Had I had a fourth choice it would probably have been Odfjell, so in many ways I lucked out. I have to say, when choosing, I wanted something that would offer me good opportunities post qualification and something specialized. North Sea, chemical tankers and gas/oil tankers were what interested me.
