Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

      They just wish they had.....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

Sam, just to clarify, in the MN you train for the job you want all the way through - the deck and engineering departments follow different courses. There's no initial common training followed by specialisation.

Not quite most of the short courses overlap.

True but the vocational bit..ie oily hand prints or window licking are what you do from day 1 depending which side you have chosen, the STCW malarky is for all

Ignore the previous posts, they obviously didn't understand the question.

To progress beyond 2nd Officer, and to hold the post of 'Navigator', you will have to complete the Preliminary Navigating Officer (PNO) and Fleet Navigating Officer (FNO) courses. If you are really, really switched on, you can go on to the Specialist Navigating Officer course (Spec-N). These are all run by the RN, and you will be offered them as a routine matter of career development.

Pfft. That's all far too complicated.
