  • Questions???

Hi, can anyone give me an idea of the sort of questions you should ask when the inevitable 'have you got any questions' is asked thanks

How about asking them any potential questions you might actually have yourself.....

Sod that, too sensible. Ask if nudism is an acceptable practice in the MN....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

          Not exactly helpful guys!

Assuming its at an interview, just ask anything even if you already know the answer (as long as the interviewer hasn't already explained it to you during the interview). Most interviewers will explain a bit about the company during the interview which from my experience always covers the questions I was going to ask that I didn't know the answer too.

          Eg:

If you're doing foundation degree, always worth asking if there is an option to complete the full degree? What are the opportunities of being kept on after the cadetship (assuming you don't already know)?
?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Yeah I would say probably anything relating to future employment. Chances of being kept on, promotion prospects, study leave policy for further tickets etc? Maybe some of that is a bit much for a cadetship interview but at least it shows you're keen...

I can only speak for my group of FdDg (We were the first to go through WMA), a handful of people stayed on to do the full BSc (An extra few months at college then a dissertation).

Some cadets that wanted to do it, paid for it themselves, however some of the companies paid for a few of their cadets to complete it - although some found that the company was only willing to pay for a certain number (there being significantly more cadets with the company wanting to do it) - so the company only offered it to certain people (One would assume based on their grades at college / appraisals from the ship).

This of course was 3/4 years ago, so I have no idea if the companies even consider paying for you to complete the full BSc now.

Also, while it is far in the future for you - based on the number of persons doing their chief mates course along with me, very few companies pay for this these days. Which is something to consider when choosing a company after qualifying.
