  • CMT Tanker Companies

Can anyone give me an idea of what the following companies are like to do a cadetship with? Has anyone sailed with them? Before anyone asks, I've already done some research of my own, but the websites are variable and don't really give an idea of what it's like aboard. . Equasis either has bugger all about them, or bugger all that I understand, probably due to my lack of detailed, relevant industry knowledge

    Chevron
    Henty Oil
    Knutsen
    Odfjell

    Thanks in advance

I can tell you that Odfjell is a chemical tanker company, mate of mine at college was with them & she's still with them now! Swedish & Filipino crew mostly, good facilities, good people, lots of work

Yeah I tried to edit the title to tanker companies but it seems title editing is a no no.

ok that's good to know, thanks The website is a bi non-specific about where they operate, saying they can operate on all major lanes, but does that mean mostly north sea with a deep sea charter twice a year, or a good mix of everything? Do you know?

She's been to South America a few times, and various European ports... and had a few good nights ashore on both continents!

Knutsen - Got some great vessels, DP-2 shuttle tankers definitely would be great experience. Second mates get over ?40k 6 weeks on/off I think.

Odfjell - They have some nice drillships you would absolutely like to get onto. But don't think they put cadets onto them, real shame for sure.

Chevron - Got one decent vessel that I know of called the "Aberdeen" DP-1 shuttle tanker, would be great experience.

Henty Oil - Never heard of them

This is all I know about them. hope it helps

                That's great pignutpilot, thanks

Is a drillship the same as an FPSO?

Just found the 'Aberdeen' off the coast of Aberdeen funnily enough! On its way to an FPSO apparently.

no FPSO's are Floating Production and Storage, you fit the to the oil field after the drill ship has...well ermmm....drilled the holes to get the sticky stuff out....theres more to it than that but thats the 101 version ;-)

Also wouldnt expect cadets on a drill ship as they are either in DP or anchored as the maritime crew is minimal as the drill crew take preference etc, berth sare at a premium so cadets would be so low down the pecking order, ditto FPSO's, thought both are available to you once qualified etc
