entry requirments

sorry if this has been asked before but i am currently in my fifth year at high school and sitting my highers and then continuing more highers a/h in 6th year with the aspiration of joining the merchant navy as a trainee engineering officer, so was wondering if people could tell me the entry levels for the courses and how i would go about getting into college and what steps i should take.

I suppose we have all made the same mistake of not using the search function as Soloslash2010, and had a bollocking of GM. A mistake you only do the one time!

I'm being helpful today. Basically take a look at the companies websites and it should all be clearly written on there. Instead of asking us, why not use that strange google thing and have a look there?

I also seem to remember CD writing a whole bunch of articles about the different companies and I don't remember if he put the requirements on there or not...

And just to keep Chiefy happy, surely you would have looked at their websites before going any further right?

Yeah I would have and have also aranged meeting with our careers advisor but wondered what people who have actually been through the entry process would say.

If your careers advisor even knows what the merchant navy is and what we do etc I will raise an eye brow in mild surprise :-)

As for entry requirements, a shed load of A's and B's competition is fierce currently, the big players get 1000's of applications from which a few 100's get taken on. So you need to stand out, there are many ways to do this, also while thinking about it all remember this is a career and I'll argue a lifestyle choice too. It isnt for everyone, and not all sectors appeal to everyone.

But otherwise good luck and after doing some reading around, please do come and share your experience and we'll try to help and guide as much as we can, mind you dont always expect common sense ;-)
