  • Colour deficiency

I am aware of the fact that there are a lot of threads, however; today, I undertook my ENG1 medical, but I failed the ishihara plates. If I pass the Farnsworth D15 or the City test I can obtain the ENG1. If they're not passed the 'ENG 1 will say 'not eligible to work with colour coded cables'. Is anybody aware of any Engineers who have this problem?

    Hello,

i was in the same position as you, I went for my ENG1 and failed the Ishihara and Lantern test. If you pass the City test then you can have an unrestricted ENG1 as an engineer (but no lookout duties so it won't affect you)

let me know if you need more help

Cheers, saltydog. I'll book that soon. What does it involve as the internet info was basic!

The lantern test? Well you sit in a dark room and the guy is constantly talking to you to relax. You sit next to the lantern machine and you look at it through a mirror. The mirror represents the 2 mile test, if you look at the lantern directly that is th 1 mile test, but you need the 2.

        hope that helps!

A few engineers in my group have colour slight deficiencies - if there are any restrictions, such as colour cable work, due to a colour deficiency a ENG3 is issued which stays with your ENG1 - just means no playing with electrickery, unfortunately it doesn't exempt you from sitting the electrics and adv electrics modules in your cadetship though.

Andy K - was this when you were with Maersk during your cadetship?

I know this is ancient. However, if you fail the Ishiharra and undertake the Farnsworth D-15 and City University Test, do you only need to pass one of these tests to remove the "colour coded wire restriction" ?

            Many Thanks.
