Calculating d.(lats, longs), M.(lats,longs)

This is my first post here and I wanted to ask a question how to calculate those. I am learning in Malta Nautical Institute.
I understand the concepts of how to find both actually, but the problem is with : lat''A'' 13? 44.7'N lat''B'' 07? 55.3' N and I have to find d.lat. I don`t understand how to do it if it is like 44.7 and 55.3. With seconds added to minute. If I make 44' 42''N and 55' 18''N?

D lat is the difference between 2 latitudes. Therefore if you start off at Lat 13 44.7N and you are traveling to 7 55.3 then first of all you are travelling south. Second, as they are in the same hemisphere deduct one from the other which leaves you with 5 49.4'. Convert whole degrees by multiplying by 60 and you end up with a D lat of 300 + 49.4 = 349.4 South.

Minutes are just fractions of 60 so you need to get your head around working in a table of 60 to make it easier.

D long is the same. So try that one yourself.

Put another way....

13	44.7
-7	55.3

44.7 is smaller than 55.3

so try and take one degree and make it 60 minutes:

12	104.7
-7	55.3

104.7 - 55.3 = 49.4

12-7 = 5
