Once again, you have to bear it...

I have looked through the post for Asthma before and I had to ask this question again but, in a different way. I have/had asthma.
My current situation is that I do not take an inhaler and have not used one in the last 2 - 4 years. About 18 months ago, I had tonsillitis and I was given another prescription for an inhaler (Which is still boxed.)

The ENG1 says for 1 - 'under age 20, if history of mild or moderate childhood asthma, but with no hospital admissions or oral steroid treatment in last three years. Any identified provoking agents should not be present at sea. If there is any residual bronchospasm it should be readily treated with an inhaler and this should not be used on more than two days a month.'

Does this mean that I will not be able to be classified as a 1 until I am clear in a year and a half time? Or if I explain my situation to the doctor I can be allowed a 1?

Please ask any question I have not answered and I realise you are not doctors but, if there is anyone that has been in the same circumstances - It would be helpful. I haven't been to an approved doctor yet so, I am not sure how strict they are!

    Thank you

    Kieran

You might be best just to apply for an ENG1 and fund it yourself. Only the doctor will probably be able to to give you an answer without any doubt.

I was in pretty much the exact same situation, though I got the inhalers for a chest infection, not tonsillitis :P You should be fine. I managed to get my unrestricted ENG1, and I simply explained that I had had asthma as a child, but hadn't actually needed to use an inhaler for upwards of 6 years. Just be sure that when you're getting examined, if they ask about it, give them as much detail as you can. So basically just point out the prescription the inhaler wasn't due to a recurrence of the asthma, but something pretty unrelated.

Thanks, I have applied to Clyde and they said the would be more than happy to give me an interview when I have an ENG1 and they would refund me.

Thanks inverse! Your situation sound exactly like mine. Let us just hope they allow me to have an unrestricted!

I just went to my Asthma nurse and it turns out it the last time I was prescribed an inhaler was when I had a chest infection, not tonsillitis Apparently, it is common to prescribe inhalers with a chest infection.
