  • Royal Fleet Auxiliary Application

    Hi,

I am currently an electrical apprentice at a power station and will finish my HNC/advanced apprenticeship in July 2013. I can't get much sense out of the recruitment office or the website. Does anyone know if the RFA are actually recruiting electro-technical cadets at the moment?

I would apply for the Systems engineering direct entry role however I have only experience in large power systems/machinery (Generator, motor, transformer and switchgear etc.) and the role seems to be heavily involved with comms/electronics etc. Can someone clarify?

I am good at learning and retaining anything within EE so im not worried about learning electronics etc. but I presume they would look for a fair bit of experience with it already, which I most certainly dont have.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I really like the look of a job with them but I can't apply to myself to any other engineering field other than electrical unfortunately :/

    Thanks

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Sorry I can't be of much help but just wanted to say welcome to the site!

We have a few RFA-ers about so hopefully you'll have an answer soon!

      Hey Ryan,

I went through the application process a few years back (and was about to be accepted as a cadet before the new government made major cutbacks resulting in my job being no longer offered - GRRRRRRRR). I know they where tightening things up but I think I still have the email address for Sue who works for the recruiting department in Portsmouth. I can try and dig it out if you want to ask direct? I've also gone through the application process for a Deck Officer and passed so let me know if I can help further.

The RFA has only just started offering a Systems Engineering Cadetship (as of last September).

I cannot remember the entry requirements for direct entry, however, I believe they are based on qualifications rather than experience.

          Thanks for the warm welcome.

If you do have the email address that would be excellent, best to speak to them direct as opposed to over the phone with the hotline

I can't find the systems engineering cadetship on the Royal Navy website, so fingers crossed they are still recruiting them under the guise of 'Engineering officer cadet' (a rather ambiguous statement in itself)

Thanks again for taking time to reply

I've just finished the recruitement process for the RFA and start BRNC in September 2013. I may be wrong, but I think that the RFA only take ME's and deck.

Hi there, I am aiming at joining the RFA as a Deck Officer Cadet, I have looked around and know I am fit enough to pass ENG1, however does any one know what the RFA Specific medical/fitness requirements are?

There aren't really any. Bleep test or something at the AIB, but no particular score required.
