  • After Cadetship Employment

Hi just a quick question but after completing a engine cadetship and getting my tickets what rank do people usually start at junior engineer, 4th engineer or 3rd engineer,

Depends on the company but it's usually 4th or 3rd.

Some cruise companies will drop you a rank for a contract (or less) so if you qualified and moved to cruise you would go in as 4th engineer.

      To boldly go.....

Depends on ship, size of vessel, number of officers and roughly how competent you are.

If it's a large vessel with a large crew then 4th (or even 5th), if a small vessel (e.g. North Sea) then 3rd is the likely bet.
