    Hi everyone,

Called CMT and they told me my contract should be arriving in the near future, and after loads of toying with company ideas ive came to the following list of the companies i would LIKE to work for:

    1) DFDS - I'd love to work on a ship which is directed for Scandinavia/Holland which are 2 places i would really like to see
    2) Subsea7 - I'd like to get into Dive Support vessels after my cadetship so this seems like the best place to start
    3) RCI - Even though this is going to be astronomically unlikely, i'm a very very sociable person and working in the Caribbean on a massive cruise ship seems like a brilliant prospect

My question is, what are the chances of getting the chance to work for these companies and if you know of any engine cadets working for these companies, because im having a hard time choosing with so many options!

Near future? Does that mean it's in the Post or they're still sending them out?

I was going to pick RCL, on the count of my outstanding employment history, of "customer service" - but then, I heard that CMT allocate on how many points you scored on the interview? My interview went very very well. But, I'm sure there's a few out there who scored higher; so I've come to the conclusion that it would be a wasted choice.

      Good luck with it guys!

Without trying to be too brutal your reason for the first one is stupid, your not going to see the country just the same few ports over and over again and there will be plenty of time when you cna go there for a holiday later on, however its a passanger service so still good experience if you think cruise ships or similar might take your interest later on.
Dont focus on the time as a cadet but what your goal is afterwwards. so if offshore support is the area that your most interested in then find as many companies that can achive that and choose between them. It shows that your keen to work in a particular area, where a mix shows that you like different things so its then hard to complain if you dont end up with where you really wanted to be.
Its a hard choice and as theres a lot of posts to prove many people dont get what they believed they wanted, again if that happens dont worry its the means to the end that your want out of a cadetship
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

Hopefully when my contract turns up in the near future I'm planning to pick:

          1. Wilhelmsen
          2. Gulfmark
          3. K Line

In my interview I got told that 9/10 people get one of their 3 choices which seems a little ambitious. This forum may not represent everyone choosing companies with Clyde but a 9/10 chance of getting one of the three you pick does seem a little...

9/10? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... Aaaaaaah. I don't know anybody with CMT who got one of the companies they chose! I didn't. I LOVE the company I was placed with though and see myself working for them for many years Shame they don't take UK cadets anymore Experiences from my class are:
Zodiac have a bad reputation but some people love them. They don't take on their cadets. Brits are too expensive.
Wilhelmson cadets didn't get their 12 months sea time and will have to go back to sea after Phase 5 and sit their Orals late. The guys had a great time onboard though.
Vroon - You'll spend your time smoking and wanking in the north sea
Odfjell - I don't know anyone sponsored by them but they charter Euroceanica vessels (I'm sponsored by Euroceanica) and seem a good company. Also, chemical tankers are the best
Latsco - Cadets didn't get their 12 months sea time and I hear the company are a joke. I don't think they even have a website.

Euroceanica was one of the companies I mentioned at my interview, I'd looked at all the companies listed on CMT's website and they were still under the sponsoring companies at the time, looked like they had some ice class vessels and travelled in some interesting waters. I was informed they'd stopped taking British cadets at the interview which is a shame, however I was also looking at Odfjell so I may have to consider them... with that said, I haven't heard of a single Odfjell cadet so it could be a total waste of a pick.

The three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, "Cover for me." Number two, "Oh, good idea, boss." Number three, "It was like that when I got here."

The other girl on my course was an Odfjell cadet, and she's just got back from her first trip as an officer with them. She seemed to have a pretty good time on those ships, sounds like a good company to pick to me!
