  • South Tyneside college

Anyone who attends stc have any tips to go far and do well, or anything we have to do whilst we're at south shields.and let's here from you aspiring cadets attending stc this September. Only 5 months to go

Live local to STC Went there from 2009-2011 to study a first diploma in engineering. Good college IMO, staff and people are really friendly and the cafeteria food seemed alright! Shields is alright like, plenty of shops and everything is connected by metro, shields nightlife is alright too, plenty of clubs and bars if thats your scene and new castle town centre is a 15 minute metro ride, where the nightlife and shops there are also excellent As for lasses, plenty of girls as STC have a large hair + beauty section

Really looking foward to starting, as i only live 5 minutes away and having my own room will rock, just hope people are game to party haha!

Really happy with the college, great lecturers with a lot of experience, good course structure and learning resources that are easily available. Halls wise- not too glamourous but sufficient enough, room size depends on block as does quality of internet access. They get cleaned everyday which is good.
Another good thing about living in halls is that the gym is about 3 mins walk away and cost ?5 a month!!! Not the greatest gym in the world but adequet- plus for the cash you cant complain!
Food wise breakfast is ok, lunch is fine but main meals vary from poor to disgraceful. Pizza, chips and pasta are always available and some form of stodgy dessert...never usual a piece of fruit in sight. They card system is illogical and the staff, though pleasent enough, do take their time when serving.
Socially, there is a bar on campus that is open random times during the week, kinda weird little hut on the field but pints are dirt cheap and there is a projector so good for watching the footy. Shields is an alright nite out on a saturday and if grannys take ur fancy, they are out in force on fridays :-) I tend to prefer newcastle if im out on the smash, cheap metro and if theres a few of ya's in a taxi, gettin back wont be too pricy. Geordie shore is a quality nite out, girls are hot and drinks aint too expensive.
All in all Im really happy to be here and aside from the evening meal standard, could really ask for much more

I'm starting here too. How easy is it to get to the shops and is there plenty of places to take a bike?

Are you from the north east! Shops for clothes? If so you have the metro centre in Gateshead one of the largest shopping malls in Europe!

Id say south shield is about 2/3 to 3/4 the size of Darlo so I'm guessing there's. Paper shop close by!

I'm neither, I don't really have a club. I'm quite impartial just like football, although I do go to Darlo games!

Mountain or road bike? Dinna ken about the former but as for the latter there are loads of great rides around, lovely views of the cliffs and nice fast roads. Good amount of cycle paths too, you can cycle all the way to Gateshead of an afternoon if the fancy takes you. They are a bit disjointed, so I'd recommend downloading the cycle paths app. Also, always lock your bike up. Thieving b@stards nicked mine out of my shed while I popped into get some stuff from the house.

There's a newsagent about a minute from the college and a co-op with a free cash machine about 5 mins down the road. The rest of the shops are 15 minutes down in the town centre
