College Essentials

Hi I was just wondering from your experiences what are the essentials I should bring with me to the start of college and additionally is there any good books an engine cadet you invest in.

casio scientific calculator
laptop (although STC has 24 hr access to the halls computer lab so it isn't really essential, don't know about the other colleges)

chris, is the wifi good at STC?

overall its ok, but no substitute for the broadband access we're mostly all used to at home

its ok fo study purposes but not great for streaming tv such as iplayer, or file sharing which of course is illegal.

its also filtered for the benefit of under 18s but there are some ways around that discussed on older threads

there were a few weekends where the server running the filtering went down leaving the internet 'off' until the monday morning which was annoying

there are also a few old threads about using the wifi for online gaming

at one of the halls forums, I remember a student complaining that they couldn't access a POP3/IMAP email server because of the filters and the management were very unhelpful to him.

File sharing is not illegal at all, as long as you have the rights to share what your sharing for example I can legally share any of my own essays.

Haha that would usually be true but if you had read any of them you would know that all they would do is make the reader less intelligent by association therefore reducing my competition. It’s a baldric-esque cunning plan.

I just wrote about filesharing being illegal in case the government reads this thread. I hereby state that I have never used piratebay and have no idea what it is.
