Am I now too late for applying for September 2012 intake to the Merchant Navy?

Title says it all really.

I looked into this career quite seriously last year, but didn't take action then. Just coming back to it this week, and keep reading that the application period is generally Dec/Jan time for the following Sept.

Still I see there were careers events as recently as last week. I'm planning on calling SSTG/CM tomorrow... but just wondering if you guys think I'm still in with a chance for Sept... or if I'll need to wait for the following intake?

I think if you applied now it wouldn't be too late.. the last open day was saturday 11th and some companies don't start going through applications until all the open days are over. or so they told me anyway. but yeah I don't think it would be too late now, just don't leave it much longer!

The copy on the websites of various sponsors seems to vary wildly- from some indicating they've already finished for this Sept, through some seeming to say their application phase will not even open until May!

yeah it seems like a pretty strange going on, I've got an interview with SSTG and one with HAL both on the 27th of this month, but I've not even heard back from some others yet as I applied to a good few, so it seems there is a lot of variation. My advice would be to just apply left right and centre and see which ones get back to you, afterall, it's not like you have to take an offer from the first company that want to interview you!
Also, there is a hell of a lot more companies that aspiring deck/engine cadets can apply to than Electro-Technical, so you've got an even broader spectrum than I have. What kind of ships are you interested in working on if you don't mind me asking?

Not sure about entry times for september, but in my case i first contacted my training group the start of january and that's me just finished my first week of college!!

tommo here, I am currently still waiting to hear back from various companies (hopefuly). I was just wondering which companie and college are you with, and how was the first week of college for you?
