I see from the Warsash website that for FD you do 17 weeks at college which take it to about christmas I guess. Do you get any time off over christmas before going to sea?

In the first sea phase which is 8 months how much leave do you typically get? I was told OOCL usually put you on Liverpool-Montreal-Liverpool. Do they really make you go back and forth on that short run for 8 months?

I know that at Warsash we start on 6th Sept, and we have two weeks off at Christmas,
but does anyone know if we get a mid-term break around the end of October?

I don't believe so. I've been here since January and only had 2 weeks off at easter. No half terms or anything. I believe it's a straight run to christmas from september

Hi,

Warsash doesn't have "half-term" breaks in the way that colleges do. Normally you would get two weeks at Christmas, two weeks break around Easter, and four weeks over the summer. If you're short of sea-time, some companies might want to send you back to sea during these college breaks.

UK_academic - Does the two week easter break usually apply during the first sea phase as well? I know it is up to each company but is there usually some leave between one 4 month trip and the next?

The break only applies to cadets when they are on campus, during sea phases the timing of your leave will be at the discretion of your company. As a cadet, you would normally be given a bit of leave between trips in your sea-phases - the amount will depend on your company, and also the schedules of your ships!

Be aware that your company may also want you to do a 6 month trip - rather than 2 shorter ones since you only get 7 months for sea time during the first sea phase (warsash september start FD deck).
