  • Northern Marine Management

Okay so I'm starting with Clyde in February as HND Deck. I put Northern Marine Management as my first choice. I know they have a big fleet and run a fair few vessel classes. Just curious to know what vessels people have been put on if they got put with Northern Marine Management?

    Hi Andy,

I know someone who is currently with Northern Marine Management.

She has been on Tankers and General Cargo Ships. I could give you the names of the vessels if you wanted?

    Hope this helps.

I'd love the names if it isn't to much hassle. Cheers for the help.

        Hope I helped.

I am starting with Clyde on the 9th of January as an engineering cadet and am sponsored by the MacBrayne group/Northern Marine Management partnership.

I was aksed by Clyde Marine to attend an Interview with Northern Marine in December at their Offices in Clydebank. Their offices are really smart with all the latest technology and as soon as you walk in the front door you think that they are a company doing well and going places.

We had some group presentations from Cal Mac and Northern Marine representatives then moved on to individual interviews, i was informed two days later that I had been successful and was now sponsored by their partnership with the MacBrayne group.

Basically it means my first sea phase will be either on Cal Mac or North Link Ferries and my second sea phase will be through Northern Marine on a large tanker deep sea.

They explained to me they like their cadets to get more than the minimum sea time required and the cross training on ferries an tankers would be good for my training. The prospects of a job with them after finishing my cadetship also seem good but like everything not 100% guaranteed.

I am not sure exactly if there are any cadets sponsored just by Northern Marine or if everybody with them is. sponsored via the partnership with the MacBrayne group.

They are one of the few companies on Clydes Books that actually interview prospective cadets before offering them a sponsorship. I am very happy indeed to know my sponsors before starting college and it is one less thing to worry about.

If you would like to know anything else then I will try to help

To throw a spanner in , I'm in a similar position to SWonder but never had anything more than the very brief interview with Clyde, although after most of us did have an introduction to the company just before we started at college.

NMM do sponser cadets directly although it really doesnt make much difference
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

Hi ETwhat? So are you directly sponsored by NM or the MacBrayne partnership and what stage are you at in your course if you don't mind me asking ?

I am quite happy that I know my sponsor company before I start college and it seems like a pretty good outfit to be with. My Training Officer at Clyde told me the last cadet she had who was on the Joint partnership sponsorship like me got a job with Northern Marine once qualified.
